Zombies

DAY 1

Dear diary,

Today I woke up at 6:30. I made my bed, got dressed, and watched a show in the loft. At 7:05 mom got home so I ran downstairs and got breakfast. When I was done, it was 7:30. I went upstairs, did my hair and brushed my teeth. When I was done I looked at the clock. I was like, “Oh wow! It’s only 7:35!” Then I got packed for school. When I was done I sat down to relax on the couch. At 7:45 I hopped in the car and mom drove me to school. On the way we had the radio on and all of a sudden, the broadcaster said, “THE ZOMBIES ARE COMING! THE ZOMBIES ARE COMING!” I was kinda confused. But I walked into school at 7:50 and the first person I saw was Eliana. (Me and Eli are best friends). I said, “Eli did you hear the news? Apparently the zombies are coming.” “Yeah. I hear we could all like umm, uh…” She pauses, “Get attacked and turn into zombies.” “Oh yeah, I know that. But like whatever.” I say. “Yeah.” Eli replies. We start walking to our line. The bell rings at 7:59 screaming FREEZE! The bell rings through my ears. At 8:00 the unfreeze bell rang. We walked into our classroom with the rest of our classmates. At 8:02 I noticed some strange noise coming from outside. All of a sudden a ZOMBIE walked into our classroom and…well she said, “Hi. Sorry I’m late.” It was Sadee! Sadee got turned into a zombie! But how? The day went by and I forgot to ask Sadee why and how she is a zombie. I went to piano after school. When we got home from piano, I watched a show, grabbed a snack, and talked to my friend on the computer. After that, I ate dinner, got in bed, and started reading. As I was reading, I started thinking about the zombies. Could I be turned into one? How? What would I do?

DAY 2

Dear diary,

Today I woke up at 6:30 again. I made my bed, got dressed, and watched a show in the loft. At 7:03 mom got home so I ran downstairs and got breakfast. When I was done, it was 7:34. I went upstairs, did my hair and brushed my teeth. When I was done I looked at the clock. It’s only 7:39-I thought. Then I got packed for school. When I was done I layed down to relax on the couch. At 7:44 I hopped in the car and dad drove me to school in the jeep with no doors. On the drive to school, we had the radio on again. The broadcaster said, “Warning! Many zombies have been spotted amongst people of Las Vegas. Stay hidden-stay safe.” Then dad turns off the radio and tries stalling. I don’t listen. I’m too busy thinking. I’m too busy thinking about Sadee yesterday, about how she was a zombie. We pull up to school. I don’t say bye to dad. I don’t talk to my brothers. I just think. How? How was Sadee a zombie? It just doesn’t make sense. I walk right past my line. When I finally came back to the real world, I realized that I walked past my line. I turn around and walk back to my class. “Hi.” I say. Everybody realizes I don’t know what I’m doing. They all stare at me blankly. “Sorry, just thinking.” “Thinking about what?” Gabbi asks. “Nothing.” I responded. “Is it about the zombies?” Brandon asks kinda creepily. I hesitate. “Uh, no. Not about the zombies. It really doesn’t matter. Where’s Eli?”  “She’s not here yet.” Allyza says. “Ok.” I walk over to the stairs and try to stay warm. Then get thinking again. How? Why? Am I exposed to this something Sadee has? The bell rings. We walk inside. At 8:04 Sadee walks in still as a zombie. But, today she doesn’t say anything. She just walks over to Mrs. Thomson, hands her her blue slip, then walks to her seat. And that’s it. She doesn’t talk all day. The school day goes by really fast. At 2:11 the bell rings and I go home. While I’m waiting for mom to pick me and my brothers up, I think about Sadee. She was a zombie today-and yesterday. Mom pulls up and we get in the car.  When I get home I unpack my backpack, watch a show, and just relax. Then, all of a sudden it’s time for dinner. I eat dinner, play a game of knee hockey with Beau, then go to bed. In my bed I say to myself, “Tomorrow. Tomorrow something big is going to happen. I can feel it. I don’t know what, but I do know something big will happen. I say goodnight to Sami, then fall asleep.

DAY 3

Dear diary,

Today I did my morning routine, hopped in the car, and drove to school. Today I asked mom what that wash behind our house was for. She said it was a man made wash that was hardly ever full. After that she told me to ask dad for more information. When we got to school it was 7:58. We ran and tried to get to the gate in time but the bell was ringing. So we had to walk in and just freeze right outside the gate. It felt like an hour but finally the 2nd bell rang. We walked fastly to our lines. I got to my classroom. I was going to go talk to Sadee, but then I realized she wasn’t here yet and the rest of her table wasn’t either. Well Maya was. All of a sudden at 8:03 Sadee, Dulce, Emme, and Kaylin walk in. THEY ARE ALL ZOMBIES! All of a sudden we hear them say, “Brains.” Then everyone else jumps up and gets against the wall. Sadee, Dulce, Emme, and Kaylin start chasing us. We all ran outside. We ran through the silent halls of the school screaming. We ran through the front office door. Mrs Thomson tells the office ladies that some of the students have turned into zombies. We all ran to my neighborhood. I open the garage and everyone runs in. Then we close it really fast. “Well that was a close one!” Daniel shouts. “Ya think?”, all the girls in class say. I look at the time. “It’s 8:07.” I say. “Man, we run fast when zombies are chasing us!” Daniel says. Everyone rolls their eyes. “Ok. So. We just ran out of school. And we ran to my house. Everyone is at my house.” I say to myself.  It’s silent though so everyone hears me. “Uh, what do you want to do? Is anyone hungry?” I ask. No response. “My mom isn’t home right now so I’m gonna go text her. I will bring some food out.” I run upstairs, grab my phone, run downstairs to the kitchen, and back into the garage. “Here is some food. Eat away.” My class runs to the food. I unlock my phone and I text mom:

Hi mom. Sooooo some kids at school turned into zombies and well…we all ran out of school and came to our house. I opened the garage. Don’t worry, Mrs. Thomson is going to text all the parents and have them come get everyone. Ok?

Mom replies back right away:

Uh.. yeah I guess that’s fine. Just make sure you keep the house clean. I will be back in an hour.

Then I say:

Ok. We are just in the garage. See you in a little bit.

My phone shuts off. I ask my classmates, “Do your phones work?” They all say no. The internet must have gone out. Then I put my phone back in the house. I grab a deck of cards and say , “Anyone wanna play a game?” We play a game. About 30 minutes later everyone leaves except Eli, Maya, Brandon, Mason, Ian, Gabbi, Allyza, Connor, and Daniel. Then 30 minutes later, mom and dad got home with Beau, Trey and Sami. It felt like 5 minutes but all of a sudden, it was 8:00. PM! Me and my friends went inside, got some blankets, and went to sleep…

DAY 4

Dear diary,

The next day we woke up at 6:00 a.m. We packed some bags, and left the house. We brought some glue, wood, a knife, and some matches, stuff like that. We went over to the arroyo behind my house. We got there and were very confused. THERE WERE ZOMBIES IN THE ARROYO! We started thinking… we can’t go into the arroyo so how are we going to get over it? “We could build a bridge or something to get across!” I shout. Everyone agrees. We get to work. A few hours later we finished. We built a bridge out of the wood and glue that we had brought. We walked across and it worked! We were so surprised. We are 11 years old, we had never built a bridge before. We kept going. “Wait there’s like no zombies here.” Daniel said. “Your right. Maybe because of the arroyo?” Brandon says. “Oh probably.” Gabbi says. About 30 minutes later we were hungry. We had brought a few snacks but not enough for a whole lunch! We ate all the snacks we had. Then we kept going. A few hours went by, it felt like a year. The sun went down and we put up the tents we had brought from my house. The tents are pretty big so all the girls shared one and all the boys shared one. We had found some things to make s’mores in Gabbi’s backpack and me and Eli started a fire. We had to find some sticks but it took us a while to find some. We kinda had a celebration party. We played tag, ate our smores, and tried to fall asleep. It took us a long time, but you can’t blame us, there were zombies only a few miles away! We had also just left civilization, we have no internet, and we’re all alone.

DAY 5

Dear Diary,

This morning we had to hunt for food. We ate pigeons! I’m scared to eat anything now… After breakfast we decided to start hiking. We didn’t know which way to go. We can go south to Mt. Charleston or North to Lake Mead. We went over the pros and cons…

Lake Mead

Animals Water

Water where just some dead bodies found

Mt. Charleston

Shelter Fish

Trees Dessert

We could only think of a few. We decided we would go to Mt. Charleston. We packed up our stuff, put out the fire, and started on our hike. Again only a few hours felt like a year. No one was talking to anyone. We were hungry and thirsty. We had run out of water a few miles back.. It was hot out here. It is May in vegas. It feels like we are going to melt! We don’t have service but we know it has to be at least 110 degrees. The sun goes down but we still think it is about 100 degrees. We decided to set up camp. We put up the tents and started a fire. We still didn’t have food or water. “Wait, what’s that?” Maya says, pointing through the trees. “It looks like a fire!” Ian shouts. We all get up and start running. “Look we’re not the only ones out here!” Mason says. There were two older people, probably in their late 40’s or early 50’s. “Why hello there!” The woman said. “I am Ada and this is Albert. What are you kids doing out here so late?” Ada asked. “Oh well zombies were chasing us and we kinda ended up here.” I said. “Well that is not the whole story but you get the point.” “You kids look like you haven’t had food or water for a week!” Albert said. “Well…” Eli says. “Oh my goodness. Oh my goodness!” Ada said. “Please, take a seat!” Ada grabs some bottles of water and hads them to us. We drank them in a second. Then Albert gave us chips. We ate those super fast too. “So, um what day is it?” Allyza asked. “We think it’s Wednesday.” Ada and Albert say. “Why?” “Oh because we don’t have service and we just wanted to know.” Gabbi said. Ada asked us if we wanted to stay with them for the night but we said that we had set up a camp ground already and that we could just sleep there. We said thank you and goodbye. Ada and Albert gave us some extra food and water. We went back to our tents. Then we fell asleep.

Day 6

Dear Diary,

Today we packed up once again but instead of eating pigeons, we just skipped breakfast all together. We kept on hiking to Mt. Charleston. We only drank water once every hour and when we did, we only took small sips. After about 4 hours or so we made it to a nice spot in the middle of the mountain. We were going to set up camp but decided we should just keep going. After about another 4 hours we finally decided this is where we will stay. There was a nice pond with fish and a good spot four our tents. We decided we would stay here for as long as we could. We set up our campfire and tents, then we went fishing. I’m not a fan of fish but I wanted to live so I decided I could try it… “Ew!” I shout. “That is so gross!” “You better get used to it.” Maya says. “That’s what we are going to be eating for who knows how long.” I rolled my eyes and ate the fish. About 30 minutes later we got in our tents and went to sleep… waiting for another day…

Day…oh who am I kidding I have no idea what day it is

Dear Diary,

It has been about 2 years. Yep. We have been living in a mountain eating fish for 2 years! But I have good news… we haven’t seen a zombie in the past 2 years so we all took a vote and decided to head back to civilization. WE ARE GOING HOME!! We packed up all our stuff and filled up the water bottles Ada and Albert gave us. Yeah- we kept those water bottles for 2 years. They are really gross now… we started hiking down the mountain. We also took a vote on whether we should stop along the way and camp or not. We are not going to stop at all unless we have to. After about 12 hours of walking we made it back to the arroyo. We realized there were no zombies in it anymore so we walked down into it and climbed out. After that, I could see my neighborhood! I never thought I would be so excited to see my house. I said bye to all my friends and went inside. (They went home.) When I opened the door my whole family came running to me. They wanted to know where I was so I showed them this diary. A few minutes later there was a knock on the door. Mom opened it. It was Ada and Albert, with cookies! They are our new neighbors! “Oh hello darling!” Ada said. “Wait, I recognize you. You were one of the kids we saw while we were camping 2 years ago!” “Yes I was!” I said. After mom and dad talked with them for a few minutes I decided to ask my family what happened with the zombies. “So, uh what ever happened to the zombies?” I asked. “Oh it was this whole big prank-” Dad starts. “Just kidding! Some scientists created a thing that kills the zombies. They dumped them from helicopters and, well, the world went back to normal!” And that was it. That is my zombie story…
